Finding Beauty Within the Unknown
Unsettled is an evocative fluid art painting that explores uncertainty, emotional movement and the delicate space between chaos and calm. Cascading streams of deep blue, smoky grey, blush pink, muted violet, ivory and warm earthy tones move vertically across the canvas, creating an abstract world that feels simultaneously turbulent and serene.
Created through fluid art, a contemporary abstract technique in which liquid paint is poured and guided across a surface, the work relies on the natural interaction between colour, gravity and movement. Unlike traditional painting, where every brushstroke can be carefully predetermined, fluid art embraces unpredictability. The artist influences the direction of the composition but also allows the paint to move freely, creating formations that could never be replicated exactly.
It is this relationship between control and surrender that lies at the heart of Unsettled.
The Story Behind the Painting
There are moments in life when everything appears to be moving, yet the destination remains unclear.
Unsettled captures that feeling.
The colours descend through the canvas like streams of thought, memory and emotion. Some travel in clear, uninterrupted lines. Others collide, change direction or disappear into neighbouring colours. Nothing remains completely separate.
At first, the composition may feel restless. Deep blues emerge beside soft pinks, warm amber appears unexpectedly between cooler tones, and delicate ivory pathways weave through darker areas. Yet the longer one observes the painting, the more a subtle harmony begins to reveal itself.
Within all that movement, there is beauty.
The painting tells the story of someone standing in the middle of change. The past has already shifted, but the future has not yet taken shape. There is no perfect clarity, only the knowledge that movement itself means something is transforming.
The forms within the painting can evoke many interpretations. They may resemble rain running down glass, melting glaciers, mineral formations, distant cliffs or even figures moving through a misty landscape. Nothing is explicitly defined, allowing each viewer to discover a different story within the abstraction.
The Language of Fluidity
The vertical movement gives Unsettled its distinctive emotional character.
Deep blues and charcoal tones introduce introspection and depth, while dusty pinks and mauves bring warmth and vulnerability. Ivory and pale grey create moments of openness, almost like light finding its way through the composition. Occasional touches of ochre, rust and gold add warmth to the otherwise cool palette.
The colours do not exist independently. They stretch into one another, creating fine veins, soft transitions and unexpected boundaries.

The Artist’s Vision
The artist envisioned Unsettled as an exploration of the emotional landscape of uncertainty.
Rather than portraying uncertainty as something entirely negative, the work considers what might exist within it: possibility, discovery, vulnerability and transformation.
The fluid technique became essential to this idea. The artist could guide the paint but could never completely dictate how each colour would behave. Some of the most compelling details emerged precisely where control ended and spontaneity began.
This became a metaphor for life itself.
We often seek certainty, structure and clearly defined outcomes. Yet some of our most meaningful periods of growth occur when those certainties disappear. We learn to adapt, to trust, and eventually to recognise patterns that were impossible to see while we were living through them
Unlike a work about resolution, Unsettled does not attempt to provide a perfect ending. Instead, it honours the space in between: the moment when things are still shifting, questions remain unanswered and the next chapter has not yet revealed itself.
Because being unsettled does not always mean being lost. Sometimes, it simply means we are still becoming.
