The Layers We Carry Within
The Story Behind the Painting
Each ring represents another layer of life: childhood, relationships, discoveries, challenges, losses, achievements and moments that may have seemed insignificant when they occurred but eventually became part of who we are.
The dark lines cutting through these golden layers can be seen as interruptions in life’s journey: moments that changed direction, challenged certainty or left permanent marks.
Nothing completely breaks the form.
The Artist’s Vision
The artist envisioned Core Memory as a visual exploration of how identity is built through layers of experience.
The central point is intentionally understated. The artist’s focus is not simply on one memory, but on everything that forms around it over time.
As we move through life, new experiences do not necessarily replace what came before. They accumulate. They reshape our understanding, influence our choices and sometimes cause us to reinterpret memories we thought we already understood.
The artist deliberately allows imperfections, breaks and uneven textures to remain visible. They represent the fragmented nature of memory and the idea that a meaningful life does not develop in perfectly even circles.
Some experiences leave gentle traces.
Others leave deeper marks.
And some become so fundamental that they remain at our centre, quietly influencing everything that follows.
Ultimately, Core Memory invites the viewer to look inward and consider the experiences that have become part of their own emotional architecture.
We are not defined by a single moment, but by the countless layers of memory, experience and emotion that gather around our core and quietly become who we are.

Visual Breakdown
- Composition & Focal Point: At the heart of Core Memory lies a captivating series of concentric circles, evoking the passage of time—much like tree growth rings, an eye, or celestial orbits. The central core settles into a grounded dark brown, expanding outward through layered rings of dusty pink, soft cream, rust, and deep terracotta.
- Color Palette: Rich, earthy tones define the piece. Deep chocolates, warm rusts, blush, and ochre are elevated by luminous accents of shimmering gold leaf.
- Texture & Technique: Heavy acrylic texture creates dramatic dimensional ridges along the lower half of the central motif, intersected by dark, vertical dashed lines.
